TPMs incorporate Platform Configuration Registers - specialized memory units that document the boot sequence through cryptographic measurements. Each boot phase validates the next before transferring control. These measurements undergo extension into PCRs via irreversible hash chains: previous values combine with new measurements and undergo hashing to generate updated values. The final PCR value cannot be reverse-engineered to reveal individual components without reconstructing the entire sequence.
